The CAMPRES project (Composites for Advanced Mass PRoduction of Energy Storages) is an innovative initiative aimed at developing cutting-edge composite materials intended for the mass production of battery boxes. The ambition is to combine structural weight reduction, cost and production time reduction, high performance, safety, and economic convenience, all combined with a modular and flexible approach that enables and enhances the potential circularity of battery applications.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe overall objective of the initiative is to provide the battery supply chain with a multi-material solution that combines thermoplastic materials and fiber-reinforced composite layers as basic elements available in a catalog within a design interface. These materials are also designed for use in the mass production of a modular design for containing battery elements with an increased level of safety against fire risk (both endogenous and\/or exogenous). The conceived materials come with digital models and are integrated into operational workflows that facilitate design integration based on design requirements, thereby optimizing the overall performance of energy storage systems. CAMPRES aims to address the aspects of economic and industrial compatibility concerning the development of production capacity, cost-effectiveness, and design flexibility, with the intention of supporting the battery supply chain by enabling the development of innovative paradigms for energy storage systems.<\/span>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The activity plan includes a series of progressive actions starting with the study of individual materials and proceeding towards a multi-material and multifunctional solution aimed at calibrating containment performance. At the same time, attention is given to validating the feasibility of integrating the advantages of fiber-reinforced composite materials with injection molding and thermoforming typical of thermoplastics. This critical step requires a detailed analysis to ensure optimal synergy between semi-finished materials and the process in order to maximize efficiency and quality of the final product.
Thus, materials and processes converge towards the construction of a battery box with reduced weight and whose containment performance, even in case of battery malfunction, can guarantee increased safety standards. The prototype will be tested according to relevant automotive industry standards to evaluate its behavior and compare the achieved safety level.
The development, production, and demonstration of the battery container are accompanied by the development of a design workflow, with the collection of basic data and the construction of a model, which enables battery designers to integrate CAMPRES materials and technologies in the containment of batteries for different applications.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

  1. Development and characterization of a composite material with a thermoplastic polymer matrix, optionally with different types of fiber reinforcement, and a protective layer for flame protection. The material is designed for injection molding.<\/li>
  2. Development of a prototype of a modular element for containing battery elements. The prototype serves as a demonstrator of the performance targets defined by the application requirements and the producibility of the one-step process.<\/li>
  3. Modeling of digital libraries of the composite material compatible with calculation tools for designing customized designs.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t
